ISSUE 13 Issue 13/ February-March 2009
This Global Affairs Issue 13 is concerned about the horrible situation in Gaza where innocent people are dying for no reason. As the author points out “Gaza opened the eyes of many around the world who went out to the streets, to say stop the killing and still demonstrate in the face of their hopeless governments that stood useless against this holocaust, who closed the curtains and shut their windows against the voices crying in their yard”. Furthermore he blames Israel as the only responsible for this war because “this war is not against rockets fired by Hamas, but against the population of Palestine that Israel finds it the main threat, and there will always be such slaughters if Israel is not sued for the crime committed in Gaza”.

Approaching current international events Global Affairs Issue 11 highlights in its first page the recent military events between Georgia and Russia from three different perspectives: Russia and Georgia relations, Georgia-NATO and international equilibrium. The Georgian issue could be a sad and short parenthesis in the stream of the history, or a dramatic turning point for the years to come. The decisions made today, will influence the new equilibrium more than we could expect when the first bullet was shot in South Ossetia”.

issue10copia seguridad.qxpIssue 10/August-September 2008
Description: Global Affairs Issue 10 analyses deeply the consequences and future of the European Union after the Irish referendum regarding the Lisbon Treaty which was negative. Max Andersson, MP for the Swedish Green Party, points out the need of a new Convention, without any preconditions, which will be able to work out a brand new proposal for how EU is to be governed and “what tasks shall be assigned to it and how the competences shall be distributed between the EU and the member states”. He highlights the fact that every European member country should have a referendum about the proposal and such Convention should consist of “people with independent ideas about European questions; unlike the previous Convention it shall be made up of ordinary people instead of elderly politicians with strong inclinations to constructing the United States of Europe”. On the other hand, Glen Ruffle points out a democratic deficit that is affecting the European Union credibility due to recent statements of several European politicians.

The author explains how Jewish non-state armed groups contributed to the creation of the State of Israel and when the State of Israel was created it ensured the survival of the Jewish people by establishing Israel’s armed forces in 1948.
